Roles and responsibilities

Liaising, as and when required, with the Academic Mentoring Management Committee on matters related to mentoring within the college.

Facilitating the mentoring process within his/her college.

Encouraging mentees to actively participate in the mentoring process within the college.

College office

Roles and responsibilities

Provide advice and support on practical matters such as timetabling, room bookings, and relevant contacts.

Support the mentoring process and manage any associated administrative responsibilities.

Maintain an up-to-date virtual list of mentoring matches and available mentors.

Act as a point of communication between the Committee of Professors and Academic Mentors, when required.

Maintain records at the college level and inform the College Office of active mentoring relationships to ensure the list of available Academic Mentors remains current.

Mentor

Roles and responsibilities

Support the mentee in developing an 'Action Plan' that outlines their motivation and goals.

Meet on a one-to-one or group basis to review the mentee's progress towards their desired goals.

Use effective questioning techniques to facilitate the mentee's thought processes in identifying solutions and actions.

Utilise active listening and communication skills to ensure the mentee's needs are met within the mentoring relationship.

Share relevant academic experiences and challenges you have overcome, where appropriate.

Facilitate and encourage autonomous and enquiry-based learning by providing the mentee with tools to find their own answers.

Signpost the mentee to other support services, if required.

Attend continuous training to ensure the appropriate skills are maintained to support the mentee throughout their journey.

Provide a safe and supportive space for the mentee to share academic worries and concerns.

Build and maintain mutual trust and respect within the mentoring relationship.

Roles and responsibilities

A willingness and ability to actively engage in the mentoring process.

The time and commitment required to pursue their goals effectively.

A clear understanding of the role and boundaries of the mentor.

Being punctual and well prepared for mentoring meetings.

Respecting the confidentiality of the mentoring relationship.

Taking ownership and responsibility for the mentoring process.

Seeking or accepting signposting to other support services when necessary.
